A drug dog has discovered 13 kilograms of coke in the leather upholstery of a motorized wheelchair at Milan airport. The wheelchair user had requested guidance from airport staff. When the drugs were discovered, he suddenly turned out to be able to walk.
The specialized dog brigade was deployed at Malpensa airport to check passengers and their luggage after a flight from the Dominican Republic, according to the Associated Press. According to a statement from the police service ‘Guardia di Finanza’, drugs are more likely to enter Italy via this route.
Because the dog gave a signal, the wheelchair patient’s luggage was checked, but nothing was found there. Therefore, the upholstery of the wheelchair was removed. It turned out that 13 kilos of coke were hidden in it, good for a street value of about 1.4 million euros.
The wheelchair user, a Spaniard who had requested assistance from airport staff, appeared to be ‘suddenly cured’ after the discovery. He just stood up and walked with the officers. He has been transferred to a prison.
