Election Fraud in Georgia

Immediately after losing the 2020 presidential election, Trump shouted that the election was “stolen.” In that logic, Trump pressured the election authorities in the state of Georgia to “find” enough votes. “I just want to find 11,780 votes,” he then told the responsible Republican secretary of state in Georgia, Brad Raffensperger, in a leaked telephone conversation.

Trump has now also been effectively indicted for this including election fraud and extortion. The special jury in Fulton County also indicts 18 associates, including attorney Rudolph Giuliani and chief of staff Mark Meadows. Three of them have already pleaded guilty.

Yet Trump continues to insist that his victory was stolen. Trump claimed, among other things, that 5,000 deceased people had cast a vote in Georgia and that some residents had voted multiple times. Research ultimately showed that 4 people had cast a vote in the name of their deceased family member. There were some votes in Georgia that were double counted at the polling station, but in that case no criminal intent was found. The double-counted votes were also insufficient to turn the outcome in Trump’s favor.

All kinds of conspiracy theories are circulating in Republican circles about election fraud by the Democrats. “Biden would allow migrants to enter the country en masse, so that they can all vote for him during the elections,” Soenens explains. “That is not correct at all. Undocumented people cannot vote in the United States, they do not have the right documents to do so.”

“There are of course examples of people committing fraud, but that number is negligible. This is also evident from the many investigative committees and lawsuits. These are empty accusations.”
