Zelensky: “Russia wants to mobilize 300,000 more soldiers by June” | War Ukraine and Russia

During a press conference with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Zelensky was asked how many troops Ukraine plans to mobilize this year. “I can’t give an exact figure, but we don’t need half a million,” the Ukrainian president replied. “What I can say is that Russia is preparing to mobilize 300,000 additional soldiers by June 1,” he continued.

Last Monday, Moscow published the decree for the “spring recruitment” of President Vladimir Putin (71). Russia calls up conscripts for military service twice a year: once in the spring and once in the fall. According to the decree, the army will call up 150,000 soldiers aged 18 to 30 until July 15, although Zelensky estimates that Moscow will deploy twice as many troops.

Earlier today, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on the Telegram messaging platform that 100,000 Russians have already joined the army on a contract basis since the beginning of 2024.

The recent terrorist attack on a concert hall in Moscow, which left at least 140 dead, would, according to the ministry, encourage more and more people to start fighting. “Most recruits have indicated that they want to avenge the victims of the March 22 tragedy,” it said.
