Unfortunately! Mustii fails in the semi-finals of the Eurovision Song Contest despite a great performance | Instagram VTM NEWS

--

It wasn’t to be for Mustii. Despite a strong performance – with a sneaky political message – during the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest, our compatriot lost out. As expected, Joost Klein will advance to the final on Saturday. The broadcast was briefly interrupted by a trade union action at the VRT, to denounce Israel’s participation. That country can also go to the final.

He did everything he could, but unfortunately: the party is over for Belgium. Thomas ‘Mustii’ Mustin (33) did not survive the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest with ‘Before The Party’s Over’. Our Belgian hopes were found wanting by the public. After Gustaph managed to qualify last year, another bitter pill. A ticket for the final was also not available in 2018 and 2019.

However, the bookmakers had assigned Mustii a place among the ten finalists in advance. Nine times out of ten they got it right, but Latvia turned out to be the surprising outsider. In advance, Dons was thought to have no chance with his ballad ‘Hollow’, but his vocal capabilities were apparently able to convince more audiences than our entry – which has received many expressions of support online. “He was robbed,” can be read several times.

Israel’s qualification is – although the bookies had no doubts about that – controversial for many, because of the war in Palestine. Although the Eurovision Song Contest boasts its apolitical nature, many people believe that the country should not have participated. Even on Thursday, there were protests against the passage of Eden Golan, and Mustii also subtly made it known what he thought of the whole situation. For example, ‘PEACE’ could be read in bold letters on his arm. Several fans in the audience also expressed their dissatisfaction with the presence of the ‘Hurricane’ singer. They did this by loudly shouting boo, but there was hardly any noticeable difference in the television show. Reportedly the result of an artifice, which filters out those negative sounds.

There is also an intermediate act today

That is ‘The World’s Biggest Sing-Along’, featuring Helena Paparizou (the first winner in 2005 for Greece with ‘My Number One’ and third in 2001 with Antique and their ‘Die For You’ in 2001 third), Sertab Erener (the Turkish winner in 2003 with ‘Everyway That I Can’) and Charlotte Perrelli (winner in 1999 for Sweden with ‘Take Me To Your Heaven’, and in 2008 18th with ‘Hero’)

What do you mean, no politics?

In recent months, the EBU has emphasized several times that the Eurovision Song Contest is not a political event, but Israel’s participation still provoked a reaction from our candidate Mustii. ‘PEACE’ was written on his arm (peace, ed.) written.

Welcome to the stage, boy!

He is the very last act that wants to score a place in the final, and that does not seem to be a problem for the Dutch entry Joost Klein. His song ‘Europapa’ is immensely popular online, and caused a stir during the pre-parties (concerts that – in the run-up to the Eurovision Song Contest – were organized at various locations, and where the current crop could already perform their songs to the fans) just short of a few earthquakes.

Construction wanted

Norway has already won the Eurovision Song Contest three times before, but with ‘Ulveham’ by Gåte there is little chance that they will repeat that trick in 2024. Sung in their own language, this song tells a saga about an innocent girl, an evil stepmother and black magic. As a mashup of Norwegian folk and rock, ‘Ulveham’ is quite intriguing, but despite all our efforts, it doesn’t make us really wild. But you might already have that at the gate.
