Roeselare

Less than a week after his victory in the talent show The voice (VTM) Roeselare resident Christophe Verholle performed in his own city on Wednesday afternoon. During the Volta RSL festival he and his band gave the best of themselves. The station square was packed with about seven hundred enthusiastic fans. “It was really crazy.”

Every year on May 1, the Roeselare socialists organize the Volta RSL festival. “A few months ago we also recorded Blain, the band of The voicewinner Christophe Verholle. We didn’t know then that he would win the competition,” says Michèle Hostekint of the organization. “The fact that he is now performing here a few days after his victory is perfect timing.” (Read more below the photo)

About seven hundred people watched Blain perform his best songs for an hour. “The music is a lot harder than the songs Christophe played during The voice sang, but I don’t mind that at all. I am thoroughly enjoying it,” says Natacha Debusschere, who attended the performance with her family.

Toon Beel, teacher at MSKA, where Christophe also works, was also present. “We have really sympathized with Christophe in the past period. This performance is, as it were, the apotheosis of a very intense week.” (Read more below the photo)

Christophe thanked the fans for voting for him en masse in recent weeks. Afterwards he made plenty of time to have his picture taken with them or to sign autographs. “This is completely new to me,” says Christophe. “We were really shocked at how many people were here. It was really crazy. We were quite nervous. Throughout The voice-adventure we had little time to rehearse, but from the second song on we felt completely at home here. It was really special to be on stage in our own city.”
