The 22-year-old man Shamar Duncan is charged with the murder of 26-year-old Simmie Poetsema, commander in Roosendaal, Friday night in the American city of Indianapolis. He is also held responsible for wounding two other Dutch commandos. Prosecutors consider that two murder attempts. This is reported by local media.

Statements from Dutch soldiers and other witnesses as well as video images from a bystander and a surveillance camera were used for the charges. That would reveal that Duncan was the shooter.

‘Out for a fight’
The local newspaper The Indianapolis Star previously reported on the basis of court documents that Duncan was part of a group that was out for an argument last Saturday. When a group of other men did not respond, they made an attempt at the Dutch commandos.

According to a witness, one of the fighters would have been knocked down, after which another shouted that he would go get a firearm.

Fatal Shooting
Moments later, the fatal shooting took place. The 26-year-old corporal was hit in the head with one bullet outside the Hampton Hotel, the newspaper said. He later died in hospital.

More Dutch commandos stayed in the hotel, who participated in an exercise in the state of Indiana. The two wounded soldiers and the remains will be transferred to the Netherlands this week.
