LIVE stage 5 Giro d’Italia 2024 | Panic at spurts is increasing

The Giro d’Italia train continues to rumble! After the Grande Partenza In Turin the caravan reached the coast in Andora on Tuesday, where they will also start in Genoa on Wednesday. From that city they travel – with a view of the Mediterranean Sea – to Tuscany, where an artful finish in Lucca is planned. In the Leader’s jersey guides you through it from (before) start to (after) finish!

After four stages we already have a fairly good idea of the conditions in this Giro d’Italia. Tadej Pogacar has a relatively firm grip on the pink jersey, while Tim Merlier (Soudal Quick-Step) and Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) split the pie between the two opportunities that have existed so far for the fast men. Normally a third will be added on Wednesday, but – as befits the Giro – it will not be easy.

From the start in Genoa we have to conquer a few hills to leave the Ligurian coast. This gives us an opening phase in which things will be fairly up and down, where the peloton must be alert to ensure that no dangerous envoys set out and that the sprinters can therefore keep up.

After a rolling first fifty kilometers, the Passo del Bracco looms: 15.2 kilometers long at 3.9 percent average, but also relatively irregular. If some teams get involved here, it will probably be too difficult for, for example, DSM-firmenich PostNL ace Fabio Jakobsen.

After Bracco, however, it is still a long time until the finish in Tuscany, where the sting is also fairly gone with only the Montemagno (3.0 km at 4.3%) remaining. The drivers will have to be careful in the technical final kilometers, as the final in the fortress city of Lucca has a relatively large number of bends and roundabouts.

The start of the stage is at 1:00 PM, while the finish will be around 5:15 PM. On TV you can of course go to Eurosport.
