Leverkusen has also maintained its undefeated status in the Europa League. The German national champion won comfortably 0-2 against AS Roma after a tap-in from Wirtz and a pearl from Andrich. So we have one and a half legs in the final. Romelu Lukaku headed onto the crossbar early in the game, but was unable to make a fist afterwards.
46 matches, 38 wins, 8 draws and 0 defeats. New German champion Leverkusen has not lost a match this season and hoped to maintain its undefeated status in Rome. At Roma, Romelu Lukaku was able to reach another milestone with his 300th goal in the club.
After twenty minutes, Lukaku seemed to be able to tick off that goal, but our compatriot saw his clever header burst onto the crossbar. Not much later, Lukaku was even more disappointed when his teammate Karsdorp started messing around. Grimaldo accepted the gift and presented Wirtz with the 0-1.
Roma continued to look for openings against the well-organized Germans, but they didn’t get any further than a place ball from Pellegrini. Leverkusen had the best chance just before half-time, but Frimpong missed the 0-2 score.
Pearl of Andrich
The Romans had to work hard after the break, but the boys of coach Daniele De Rossi played uninspired. Leverkusen claimed possession and was able to calmly control. Twenty minutes before the end, Andrich completely closed the books with a tremendous kick in the square.
In the closing seconds, Abraham suddenly had a giant chance to make it 1-2, but it didn’t work from very close range either. Leverkusen thus retains its undefeated status and has one and a half legs in the final. Lukaku – who left fifteen minutes before the end – and co. face a tough assignment next week.
