The judge in the criminal trial against Donald Trump over hush money fined the former president $9,000 (8,398 euros) on Tuesday. According to the judge, Trump had made statements that violated the gag order in the case.

Trump must pay a fine of almost 8,400 euros. Judge Juan Merchan decided this today, just when the trial against Trump was to resume. On Tuesday, testimony was scheduled for a banker who had an affinity with the papers and accounts of Trump’s alleged plan to cover up a sex scandal and thus influence the 2016 election.

Trump, the Republican presidential candidate and former president, is accused of falsifying company records to pay $130,000 (121,433 euros) to porn star Stormy Daniels. In return, Daniels had to keep quiet about a sexual encounter she said she had with Trump in 2006.

Trump has pleaded not guilty and denied having sex with Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford. The historic criminal trial began on April 22. The criminal case is one of four pending against Trump, but could be the only one that goes to trial and results in a ruling before the elections.

If Trump violates the gag order again, he risks jail time. The judge warned about this.
