A man in his fifties was killed in a serious traffic accident on the E34 in Ranst on Thursday afternoon. The man was at the wheel of a minibus that crashed into a truck. The highway towards Antwerp was completely blocked for three hours.

The accident on the E34 happened around 1:20 p.m. “A minibus drove into the back of a truck in the direction of Antwerp,” the federal police confirmed. “The driver of the minibus was trapped in the vehicle and had to be freed by the fire brigade.” The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but died from his injuries.

The federal highway police has completely closed the highway in the direction of Antwerp in Zoersel. The vehicles involved must be towed, but the towing can only start once the photogrammetry service of the federal police has mapped out the accident.

All traffic must leave the highway on the E34 via the Zoersel exit and follow the emergency diversion to Massenhoven. There is a mile-long traffic jam on the E34, you have to wait in line from Lille. Traffic is also moving slowly on the diversion route.
