During an extensive national investigation, virus particles were discovered in “milk from affected animals, in the processing system and on shelves,” the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced in a news release.

He adds that pasteurization normally eliminates pathogens to a level that does not pose a health risk to consumers.

For now, there is no evidence that the H5N1 virus is transmitted from person to person, but because it circulates heavily among animals, experts fear the virus could mutate. People have already become infected through contact with infected animals.

The authorities are now conducting additional research on the samples. Bird flu has already been found in raw milk. The health authorities have been advising against consuming it for some time now.
