More than 130 American protesters released after “anti-Semitic incidents”

133 protesters arrested in New York, USA on Monday night have been released. This was reported by a spokesperson for the New York City Police Department (NYPD). The demonstrators gathered at New York University (NYU) to protest the war in Gaza. They called for solidarity with the Palestinian people and demanded that the university cut its financial ties with Israel. Dozens of students have also been arrested at Yale University and Colombia University.

In a letter to the security services, the university asked to intervene. “We witnessed inflammatory, disruptive and hostile behavior that has jeopardized the safety of our community,” said NYU spokesman John Beckman, who also reported “anti-Semitic incidents.” Jewish students had already expressed concerns about their safety.

US President Joe Biden condemned “the anti-Semitic protests”. “This blatant anti-Semitism is reprehensible and dangerous, and it has absolutely no place on college campuses, or anywhere else in our country,” President Biden said.
