Information about the scale of the exercises was reported by the Taiwanese information portal Zhong Shi Xinwen Wang.

According to the portal, the exercises will last eight days and seven nights and will be held around the clock on April 19th-26th, 2024, three days longer than usual.

At a hearing in the Legislative Yuan, the Minister of National Defense of Taiwan, Chiu Kuo-Cheng, noted that in 2024, the attacking ‘red’ forces will be led by the President of the National Defense University of Taiwan, Liu Chih-Pin . The Chief of the General Staff of Taiwan, Mei Chia-Shu, will command the opposing ‘blue’ troops.

Chiu Kuo-Cheng confirmed that foreign observers from the United States and other countries will be at the exercises, but did not provide any details.

The Han Kuang exercises are the largest military drills in Taiwan and have been held every year since 1984. All types of the country’s armed forces participate in them. The practical part of the live firing exercises this year is scheduled on July 22nd-26th.
