Liverpool did not make a mistake against Brighton & Hove Albion. They did have a difficult customer in Brighton and had to catch up early: 2-1. Mohamed Salah scored the liberating goal.

With the top match between title rivals Manchester City and Arsenal on Sunday, the match against Brighton & Hove Albion was an ideal opportunity for Liverpool to do a good thing anyway.

That seemed far away when they fell behind in the second minute. Wellbeck was in the right place and scored the 0-1 goal. Liverpool had to recover from that blow, but the score was in balance just before the half hour mark.

Luis Diaz reacted smartly and quickly and pushed the equalizer from close range past Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen: 1-1. The ex-Anderlecht goalkeeper then made some good saves to frustrate Liverpool.

But when the need is greatest, Liverpool can still count on Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian appreciated a through pass from Mac Allister and put the 2-1 on the board.

The final whistle sounded like redemption for Liverpool’s supporters. For the time being, it jumps over Arsenal to the lead in the Premier League.
