Anderlecht started the Champions’ Play-offs with a win against Antwerp. Before half time Antwerp fell with ten, Killian Sardella was the match winner after half time: 1-0. Anderlecht is now level with leader Union, which plays in Genk on Monday.

Anderlecht – Antwerp in a nutshell:

  • Key moment: Two crucial phases shortly before and shortly after half-time put the match in a decisive fold. At the end of the first half, Antwerp suddenly found itself with ten after a red card in front of Wijndal and early in the second half Sardella gave Anderlecht the lead with a bit of luck.
  • Man of the match: Thorgan Hazard got the engine running at Anderlecht, especially in the second half, and played a somewhat theatrical but also crucial role in Wijndal’s exclusion. With a little more luck he could have scored himself. Butez and Alderweireld, with a save on the line, put a stop to that.
  • Remarkable: Anderlecht manages to win its first match in the play-offs for the first time in seven years. Moreover, it makes the undefeated series against Antwerp a little longer. The Great Old has now been unable to win 8 matches in a row against the Purple & White.
