More than three weeks after his historic world title in snooker, Luca Brecel is gradually feeling ready to return to the green table. Via his social media, the Maasmechelelaar announced on Wednesday that “the batteries are charged” and he is motivated to compete again.

At the beginning of May, 28-year-old Brecel became world champion for the first time at the Crucible Theater in Sheffield, England by beating local favorite Mark Selby, good for four world titles, in the final. He thus became the first world champion ever from the European mainland.
“It has been almost a month now. It still feels like I’m dreaming,” writes Brecel, who, among other things, spent a pleasant holiday in Dubai with his girlfriend and bought a brand new Ferrari. “The past few months have been INCREDIBLE for myself and those around me for a variety of reasons. The batteries are recharged and I now feel so motivated to get back to that table in August and try to win more titles in my career. I am so grateful for everything and everyone,” he concludes.

Brecel has moved up to second place in the world ranking after his world title. He only has to tolerate seven-time world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan. At the World Cup, Brecel knocked out the English legend in the quarter-finals.
