Introduction

Huawei is one of the largest electronics companies in the world. Until a few years ago, it was still in the competition to become the largest in the smartphone field. Now it focuses on other things; the sale of phones in the West is no longer a priority for Huawei. The company does have other products in its line-up, including laptops, tablets, watches, routers, Bluetooth speakers and wireless earphones. FreeBuds Pro 2 is the name of the new top model in the latter product group. We have extensively tested and listened to them.

The oval shape of the charging case of the FreeBuds Pro 2 fits comfortably in the hand. It proudly mentions the collaboration with audio brand Devialet. We also encountered that brand a while ago on the Bluetooth speaker from Huawei. It won’t surprise you that the box has to be charged via USB-C, just like most charging boxes – except of course the one from that one brand with a piece of fruit as its logo. You can also charge the Buds 2 Pro wirelessly, but you have to exercise patience, because it uses 2W via Qi. Wireless charging takes two hours; if you opt for the inconvenience of a cable, you save an hour. The earphones are sold for between 180 and 200 euros and are available in white, black and blue.

The ears weigh about 6 grams each. They therefore do not belong in the category with feather-light models. The box weighs 52 grams and is relatively long; it measures 6.8cm. Thanks to the rounded corners, it still fits well in a pocket. The earphones have a battery capacity of 55mAh, the box more than ten times as much: 580mAh. Without charging, the earphones offer a playing time of six and a half hours when noise cancellation is turned off. When turned on, they only get four hours. So the working time could have been a bit better.
