Analyst Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants says that Apple will likely introduce a FaceID sensor that can be placed behind a screen in 2026. Previous leaks from DSCC showed that this sensor should have been available in 2025.
Ross Young shared his findings with an X user. The analyst provided no sources, no causes for the delay and no further details about the future introduction of the sensor.
Young had shared a roadmap in May 2023 showing that Apple wanted to use a FaceID sensor that can be placed under a screen from 2025. This sensor would first be placed in iPhone 17 Pro models. The roadmap also stated that Apple wants to equip all iPhones with a screen with a variable refresh rate by 2025. It is not clear whether those plans are still going ahead or have also been postponed.
