iPad Pro gets M4 chip

Next week is the day, when Apple will hold its first event of the year. On May 7 Apple will most likely present the iPad Air and iPad Pro 2024. It is expected that the iPad Air 2024 will be equipped with the M2 chip, but Apple goes much further with the iPad Pro. According to the usually reliable Apple analyst Mark Gurman, the iPad Pro 2024 runs on the completely new M4 chip.

That would make the new iPad the first Apple device with the M4 chip. The iPad Pro 2022 still runs on the M2 chip, so the new processor would represent a big step. With the new M4 chip, the iPad Pro 2024 can handle the toughest tasks, with Apple focusing on artificial intelligence for the first time. The iPad Pro 2024 will be Apple’s first device in which AI plays a major role.

Best OLED screen on the market

Under the hood, the iPad Pro 2024 is getting a huge update, but that’s not all. According to Ross Young, display expert, Apple is using the best OLED screens available today for the new iPad. The current iPad Pro still has a mini LED screen in its 12.9-inch version, the 11-inch version even has to make do with an LCD screen. The iPad Pro 2024 will have the completely new OLED display in both versions.

According to Young, this is the best OLED screen available at the moment. The new displays have LTPO (low temperature polycrystalline oxide), which allows you to adjust the refresh rate of the display. With the iPad Pro 2024 we finally see a ProMotion display, with 120 Hz and always-on. Other advantages of OLED are better contrast, higher resolution and a thinner screen.

Thinner design for the iPad Pro 2024

The new OLED screen makes the iPad Pro 2024 much thinner. Apple is also making changes to the tablet at the back, because the device will receive support for MagSafe. It is not yet clear whether the entire back will be made of glass, or whether there will only be a glass Apple logo. In any case, the iPad Pro 2024 is the first iPad that you can charge wirelessly and click on MagSafe chargers.

With the new OLED screen, there is a good chance that the standby function of the iPhone will also come to iPadOS this year. This turns your iPad into a clock or photo frame, making the tablet increasingly the center of your smart home. We may already see standby in iPadOS 17.5. The iPad Pro will receive a major update this year with the M4 chip and the new screen. Do you want to know more about the tablet? Read everything about the iPad Pro 2024 here.
