Android 15 may get a feature that will allow users to force a dark mode on all apps. Starting from Android 10, a similar function is already available in developer mode, but it does not work with all apps.

The feature is hidden in the Android 15 Beta 1.2 update, Android Authority’s Mishaal Rahman discovered. In the Accessibility settings, the Color & Motion menu has the option to ‘Make all apps dark’. This makes it possible to use a dark mode in all apps, even if the app developers do not offer such a mode as an option.

This is very similar to the ‘override force-dark’ function that has been present among the developer options since Android 10. It is intended for developers to quickly test a dark mode in their apps. However, the new function can be found among the regular settings, which makes it seem intended for regular users.

Another difference is that the opposite force-dark function does not work on all apps. App makers can opt out of the feature. This does not appear to be the case with the new position, Rahman writes. For apps in which the developer option does not work, such as Fitbit, the new option does work for the time being. Google has not yet confirmed that such a setting will be added to Android 15.
