Blizzard has announced that there will be no BlizzCon this year. This continues the bumpy path of recent years, while the future of the event is not immediately clear.

BlizzCon is a major Blizzard fan convention where many new things are often revealed. A high mass for Blizzard fans, but in recent years the engine has started to sputter a bit.

In 2020, BlizzCon was completely skipped due to the corona pandemic, after which they switched to a digital-only version in 2021. A similar digital event for 2022 was canceled, after which 2023 brought the first in-person BlizzCon since 2019. And now the event in 2024 is canceled again.

Blizzard has not given a real reason, but it is said to have been “careful consideration” and a decision that was “not taken lightly”. Furthermore, they recognize the importance of BlizzCon and look forward to bringing the event back “in the coming years”, although no concrete details have been given yet.

Blizzard emphasizes that even without BlizzCon it still has a lot to say this year, including with World of Warcraft: The War Within and Vessel of Hatred, the first expansion for Diablo 4.
