EF Education-EasyPost suffered a setback early in the Giro d’Italia. The American formation saw Simon Carr drop out on Monday in the third stage to Fossano.

His team announces that Carr is suffering from his knee. The 25-year-old Briton proved unable to complete the stage. The climber was not involved in the first Giro weekend. In the opening stage to Turin he only finished 113th, in the subsequent mountain stage to Oropa he finished 127th.

It is a major setback for his team EF Education-EasyPost, but above all it is also a major loss for Carr himself. The rider started the Tour of Italy with high expectations, after he was successful in the Tour of the Alps with a nice stage victory in Borgo Valsugana.

“I am well prepared and I hope I can win a stage. That is my goal, anyway,” he said after his victory in the Tour of the Alps CyclingFlits. “I have already won a few times at this level. But winning a WorldTour race or a stage in a Grand Tour now seems like the next step for me.”
