The police assume that SPD politician Matthias Ecke was attacked by four perpetrators on Friday evening. Especially in one of them, the police suspect extreme right-wing motives. That reports Die Zeit online. The police were able to identify the others after a 17-year-old turned himself in at the police station on Sunday, accompanied by a parent. Indications that he is an extreme right-winger have been found on his mobile phone and also at his home. During the course of Sunday, the police arrested three other suspects, aged 17 and 18. Searches will be held at their homes on Monday.

Ecke was attacked on the street on Friday evening when he was installing election signs. He suffered several fractures to his face and was operated on on Sunday. On Sunday evening, several thousand demonstrators gathered in Dresden and Berlin to protest against political violence and the extreme right.
