The 18-year-old Anna Koulberg is considered one of the greatest Belgian volleyball talents. She is already part of the (large) selection of the Yellow Tigers and plays as a center player for Asterix Avo Beveren.
As the daughter of a real volleyball couple – her father is Sacha Koulberg, current coach of Brabo Antwerp, and her mother is Anja Duyck, for many years one of the best Belgian players – Koulberg seemed destined for volleyball.
“I started playing volleyball because my friends did. As a child I also played tennis and swimming, but in the end I had to make a choice from my parents. I chose volleyball because I had the most fun with it.”
“Volleyball only became serious when I was 14. We participated in an eight-country tournament and I was voted best middle player. Since then my ambition has grown strongly,” says the mischievous Koulberg in Sportweekend.
Koulberg dreams of high goals with the Yellow Tigers. “The Yellow Tigers have never made it to the Olympics. I’m aware that’s not an easy task, but I would think it’s really cool to be at the Games. It would be nice to be the first generation to do that.” succeeds.”
Koulberg has an energetic style. “I am often told that my energy and enthusiasm are my greatest qualities on the field. My coach has told me that sometimes we should not think too much and just do it. That is also a good description of how I am a bit : a little Yolo.”
