Debutant Jan Vertonghen recalled his rapid transfer to Anderlecht in front of the cameras at rights holder Eleven Sports: “The family was by far the most difficult part of the whole story. I feel like a big egotist right now. This was not the plan. It is very difficult. A lot of people don’t realize that. They then say: ‘You earn enough, don’t you?’ But emotionally it has been a very difficult choice.”

The record international joins the Purple & White at a difficult moment. “I have confidence in the project. It feels good to play football again. I also realize that we have a long way to go with the team. I am absolutely not a savior, I am there to support the team, to bring experience and positivity to the team. But they should not expect miracles from me either, I will do my best to take steps together with Anderlecht.”

“First I will try to find my own way”, responded Vertonghen when asked how he will help the young guard of Anderlecht in the coming period. “I’m going to try to assist those guys in my own way. I’m never too assertive, but I’m ready for those guys and I hope to help them further in their career.”
