It concerned athletes who were honored at the World Games, World Games, European Championships, the Paralympic variants and the Special Olympics.

Bart Swings (skating and rollerblading), Hanne Desmet (short track), Lotte Kopecky (track) cycling and Ewoud Vromant (track cycling) were present, as were judokas Matthias Casse and Mina Libeer, kayakers Artuur Peters and Lize Broekx and squash player Tinne Gilles.

The golden acrobatic gymnasts, silver korfball players and bronze rope pullers from the World Games also descended on the King Baudouin Stadium and made a lap of honour. The audience gave the athletes a warm round of applause.

The organization also rode Jacky Joyner-Kersee, world record holder heptathlon, and Kenyan runners Paul Tergat and Daniel Komen. The three are inducted into the Memorial Hall of Fame. In 1997 Tergat ran a world record in the 10 km in Brussels, world champion in the 5 km Komen ran a world record in 1997 at that distance.

Gaston Roelants, Miel Puttemans and Willy Polleunis also got a seat in the convertible. On September 20, 1972, the three of them broke no less than 5 world records on a legendary Memorial night. That 50th anniversary was the reason for the record attempt on the hour run this edition.
