Nobody doubted it after yesterday, but now the contract has also been signed. Jan Vertonghen will play for Anderlecht for the next two seasons. He is already training with his new teammates today and will be introduced this afternoon. Our editors learned this from a good source.

At the age of 35, Jan Vertonghen has landed in the Jupiler Pro League. All dots and commas between Anderlecht and Vertonghen have been put. The defender has signed a two-year contract in Brussels.

Today he is already training with his new teammates and in principle he is available for the home game against OH Leuven on Sunday.

Later today, Anderlecht will present its stunt transfer during a press moment. Attentive passers-by have already spotted the Red Devil today in the center of Brussels wearing an Anderlecht shirt with number 14 on it.

From one capital to another

In Belgium, Jan Vertonghen only played in the youth series for Beerschot. When he was 14 years old, he went to Amsterdam to make it to the first team of Ajax in the capital of the Netherlands.

In 2012, he moved to the capital of England for 12.5 million euros. He ended up staying with Tottenham for 8 seasons. In the summer of 2020 it went to the capital of Portugal. He played Champions League football at Benfica, but like Tottenham, Vertonghen was unable to take home any trophies.

After three European capitals abroad, it is now the turn of Brussels.
