There was a slight panic at Anderlecht when Jan Vertonghen indicated that he could no longer continue. The record international left the field after grabbing his groin.

Of course that is not easy. “Jan is probably the man who would have preferred to stay on the field and take his team by the hand,” sighed Brian Riemer. “We don’t know much yet. He felt something and left the field.”

“We certainly didn’t want to take a risk with him. We don’t think it is a major injury. There is still hope, but it is of course not ideal if someone like Jan just steps off the field.”

Replacement Federico Gattoni already showed that he was ready to take his place. “Fede plays with more passion than anyone else,” laughed Riemer. “That South American thing, isn’t it? Sometimes it’s even a bit too much.”

Ashimeru: cramp

To which Blessin chimed in: “I have one of those walking around too,” referring to Mac Allister. Riemer: “I take my hat off to him for the way he came in.”

And then there was Majeed Ashimeru, who played a top match. “He played a fantastic match. He had cramps. That’s normal, because the last time he started here was on the first matchday. He had a very unhappy season with a lot of injuries. But we don’t think it’s a big deal.”

Vertonghen and Ashimeru apparently both had to throw up. “We don’t really know what was going on there,” Riemer had to admit.
