The 46-year-old Irishman Dave Cosgrave, who was appointed as the new performance director at Anderlecht two weeks ago, has already left the club. Officially, he has been granted leave of absence from work to return to the United States for private reasons. After the current season, his role for the future will be discussed. If further cooperation is possible at all, otherwise his contract will simply be terminated. The chance that Cosgrave will return to Anderlecht is virtually nil.

Internal struggles

Over the past two weeks, several members of the medical department expressed their dissatisfaction with Cosgrave’s way of working. When he was officially appointed two weeks ago, it was said that Cosgrave would take on the strategic leadership of the club’s medical and physical branches. While Lead Physio Niels Mathieu, Performance Coach Dries Bloemen and Medical Coordinator Luc Vanden Bossche remained responsible for the daily operations. In practice, those lines turned out to be less clear than on paper.

The timing of Cosgrave’s arrival, in the middle of the play-offs and in full title contention, was also strange. However, the Irishman was able to produce handsome letters of nobility. For the past 2.5 years he worked for Orlando City in the MLS. He previously also worked for Premier League clubs: Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool FC, Stoke City, Fulham and from 2014 to 2021 he earned a living at FC Copenhagen. He can add two weeks of RSC Anderlecht to that CV.
