Result FP1 Miami: Complaining Verstappen fastest in any training

--

The first and only free practice of the race weekend in Miami is already over. The fastest time at the Miami International Autodrome was just recorded by none other than Max Verstappen. Behind him, the second fastest time went to Oscar Piastri, the top three was completed by Carlos Sainz.

Since the teams and drivers only have one training session to test everything, it was immediately busy on the track. The drivers took to the track led by Kevin Magnussen. Even Max Verstappen immediately entered the scorching asphalt.

All eyes were on the McLaren team, as the British racing team brought a large number of updates to the circuit in Miami. The British racing team did not start the session very well, as Lando Norris complained of problems. He could steer left with ease, but steering right was a thing. Oscar Piastri also faced submission issues. However, it seemed to be something with the set-up, so it wasn’t too bad.

Leclerc

Charles Leclerc had even more bad luck. In the opening phase of training he made a mistake in turn sixteen. He spun and that caused him to turn upside down on the track. Leclerc tried to get his car in the right direction, but he couldn’t. He stood the length of the track and he had to turn off the car. It was a big setback for the Monegasque, because it means he can barely collect data.

Complaints

After a few minutes the light turned green again and the drivers came out again. While Leclerc was brought back to the pit lane on a scooter, other drivers looked for the correct setting. Yuki Tsunoda and Logan Sargeant made a few braking errors, and Max Verstappen also had no error-free training.

The Dutch world champion shot straight into the exit zone, and then announced that not everything was in order yet. Fortunately for Verstappen, this was just training, so it cost him nothing. The problems did cause Verstappen annoyance, he thought his tires were too hot and he stated that it felt like he was driving on eggshells. Despite his complaints, Verstappen did record the fastest time.
