Besnik Hasi is in his last weeks at KV Mechelen. The Kosovar coach regrets that he was unable to reach an agreement with the club on an extension of his contract and has announced his departure. “I want to emphasize that there is no question of another club,” Hasi said after the win against OH Leuven.

Besnik Hasi was brought in by KV Mechelen at the end of November after the departure of Steven Defour. The former Anderlecht coach managed to revive KVM and almost guided the club to the Champion’s Play-offs thanks to a strong series.

There are still 4 matches left and these will also be Hasi’s last 4 matches as coach at KV Mechelen, because there will be no contract extension. “We have not reached an agreement on this,” Hasi said on Saturday evening at the press conference after KV Mechelen-OH Leuven.

“I think it’s a shame, because I like being here and I like working here. I have had many wonderful moments here. I would like to thank my players and staff for their efforts over the last 6 months. And also the fans, for supporting us in difficult moments have continued to support us.”

Hasi stressed that there is no other club in the game. “I haven’t spoken to anyone else. I have no idea yet about another club for next season. We just haven’t been able to find an agreement. It has nothing to do with another club, I want to emphasize that.”

The trainer also looked back on the beautiful course that the team has completed since his arrival. “In the regular season we won 9 times, drew 3 times and lost 4 times. We took 62% of the possible points, that is the average of a champion team,” he noted.

“We also had 6 clean sheets and a goal difference of +11. We also improved a few boys. We created an atmosphere of confidence and fought for Play-off until the last match, which unfortunately we did not achieved.”

And the future? “I now have time to think. There is clarity now. And for KV Mechelen, I hope that the club shows ambition for next season.”
