What a punishment: dazzling Club Brugge wins 4-0 against Racing Genk and puts extra emphasis on title ambitions | Sport

--

Belief in the title is greater than ever at Club Brugge after another top performance. After Anderlecht and Antwerp, Genk also did not participate at Olympia. Club cruised to a 4-0 victory. And some good news for blue-black. After a long search, striker Igor Thiago scored his first goal since January 30. At the same time, Anderlecht easily passed Cercle Brugge.

The fourth top match in April for Club Brugge at home. The title belief in Jan Breydel is evident – it was resounding again from the kick-off. The reports from the specialized football apps were collectively received by the fans, because if Anderlecht lost points, Club could actually jump to the lead in the rankings at the same level or even over the Purple & White. With Odoi – and not Balanta – as a replacement for the suspended Vetlesen. Up front, Thiago and Jutglà again together in the striker, no surprises at Genk.

As we have come to expect under Nicky Hayen, Club immediately took control of the match. It was a crusher. Aggressive football with a forward look – starting from goalkeeper Jackers. After five minutes he found Skóraś with a great long ball. The Pole took an equally good lead and laid wide for Jutglà. The Catalan beat Vandevoordt in two times: 1-0. Another quick Bruges lead.

And also a new situation for Genk – that they have never fallen behind in these play-offs. Only after twenty minutes were the Limburgers able to move the ball around a bit. Galarza shot high, Tolu failed to reach Fadera’s cross. Five minutes before half-time, Denis Odoi could have completely decided the game, but the Ghanaian headed Jutglà’s cross incomprehensibly over. Genk still enjoyed peace and quiet and there was no reason to grumble about that.

Vrancken made no substitutions and the game image also remained unchanged. Club stormed forward. Jutglà left the 2-0 incomprehensible, face to face with Vandevoordt, but it was a postponement of execution. Fadera completely lost sight of Skóraś. The Pole was able to score via De Cuyper and Vanaken: 2-0.

The standing ovation was still going on when Skóraś escaped for the umpteenth time on the right. El Ouahdi tried to clear his pass, but then placed the ball perfectly for Igor Thiago. The Brazilian played devastatingly and put the score at 3-0 with his volley. Finally another goal for Thiago, his first goal since January 30.

An unrecognizable Genk just kept collapsing. Once again Jutglà – what a match he played – found De Cuyper in the box. The left back didn’t hesitate for a second and kicked the 4-0 into the corner. It really shines at Genk. From then on, the Bruges crowd celebrated every pass with an olé.

Jan Breydel crowed with pleasure after blowing the whistle. The fans saw a big victory for Anderlecht on their smartphone, but that could not spoil the fun. Club Brugge wins for the sixth time in a row, still has everything in its own hands and is above all the team of the moment.
