Wouter Vrancken surprised friend and foe on Monday by fighting Union with a three-man defense. One of the rocks in the surf at the back was of course Mark McKenzie, who may be in his last months in the Cegeka Arena.

Not only will the 25-year-old American soon be entering the final year of his contract, McKenzie could already count on a lot of interest in January. Various teams from Italy, Germany and England are said to have inquired about his conditions.

West Ham want McKenzie

That interest appears to have not cooled, because according to transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri, West Ham is completely crazy about the 13-time international. The number seven in the Premier League is already said to be in discussions with his entourage about a transfer.

Genk does not feel obliged to get rid of McKenzie, but would be open to an interesting offer. De Condé previously stated that a solution will be sought in the summer for players without long-term commitments.

Genk hopes for an auction

According to Tavolieri, there is no concrete offer from London for the time being. Racing undoubtedly hopes that more candidates will come forward for McKenzie, who himself expressed his preference for Serie A a while ago.

McKenzie’s market value is currently estimated at six million, approximately the same amount as De Condé himself paid for him at the time. Since then, the defender has played 117 times and scored five times for the Limburgers.
