Man shot on road in Lembeek: suspect arrested, victim removed (Halle)

The facts took place on Wednesday evening on the Bergensesteenweg in Lembeek, at the intersection with the Prinsenbos. According to witnesses, the gunman fired four times at the victim. The suspect then fled to an apartment on the same road, about fifty meters away.

Commissioner Wannes Monteyne of the Zennevallei police zone confirms that a shooting has occurred. “The victim fled towards the night shop and was injured and taken to hospital, but his condition is still unknown,” the commissioner clarified on Wednesday evening. “The suspected shooter was arrested.” According to witnesses, a second person was also taken from the apartment, but according to the police this is not the case.

30 year old victim, 27 year old suspect

The Halle-Vilvoorde public prosecutor’s office was informed and will further investigate the circumstances. “According to the first information, a discussion took place between two men on the Bergensesteenweg,” said Gilles Blondeau of the Halle-Vilvoorde public prosecutor’s office. “One of the two allegedly shot the other in the legs. The 30-year-old victim from Dworp was taken to hospital while the 27-year-old suspect from Halle was deprived of his liberty. A medical examiner, a weapons expert and the laboratory were appointed by the public prosecutor’s office.”

During the observations, the Bergensesteenweg between Tubize and the intersection with the Prinsenbos will remain closed in both directions. Police tape has also been tied to the gunman’s apartment and an investigation is underway. Several local residents are questioned by the officers.
