Standard lost 5-1 to KAA Gent last weekend. Afterwards, coach Ivan Leko was not kind to his players, who made many individual mistakes.
After the regular season, Standard was assured of the Europe Play-offs. According to coach Ivan Leko, these will be used to prepare for next season. However, not much of this is always reflected on the field.
The coach is still fielding many players who are expected to be gone next season. The 5-1 defeat against KAA Gent was therefore not a nice way for the Rouches to start the play-offs.
Afterwards Leko was hard on his players. He even talked about ‘casino players’. RTBF’s La Tribune talked about what the coach said and did, and they were not gentle.
“It’s scandalous that he talks like that,” says Nordin Jbari. “He came to Standard to breathe new life into the club and he did not succeed. All he has done since his arrival is make comments.”
Ex-Red Devil Philippe Albert is also not soft on Leko and his statements. “He is the one to blame. He talks about the players he sees in training and about the players he starts. There is no excuse for that, that kind of talk should stay in the dressing room. He has to prepare for next season, otherwise things won’t go well.”
