Robert Hendy-Freegard was called into police at his home in France at the end of August for running an illegal kennel of nearly 30 dogs with his partner Sandra Clifton. However, that check did not go as expected. Because the man tried to flee when he was asked to go to the police station. Hendy-Freegard jumped into his chariot and fled. But while driving, he hit two police officers. One of them even had to be taken care of in the hospital.

Since then, a search warrant has been issued and an investigation has also been opened into attempted murder of a civil servant, for which a prison sentence of up to 30 years can be requested. The man was caught in our country last Friday, after an eight-day flight. “The person and the car had been signaled under a European arrest warrant after what happened in France. Thanks to the border information network, information is shared across national borders, so we knew that the car had to be intercepted,” says Gilles Blondeau of the prosecutor’s office.

“Last night a patrol from East Flanders was able to intercept the man in Groot-Bijgaarden. He will be arraigned today before the investigating judge and will then be interrogated. Then it will become clear whether or not he will be arrested.” According to Blondeau, the man was alone in the car. Whether he will be extradited to France will depend on the decision of the judge in our country.
