April 25 – World Malaria Day – is an opportunity for alumni to share their insights and research findings on malaria and highlight the need for continued investment and political commitment in malaria prevention, treatment and control.

On the occasion of World Malaria Day, ITM alumna and PhD student Arlette Umugwaneza address the malaria situation in Rwanda post-2018. As a result of the increase in malaria cases up to 2018, Rwanda has improved existing control strategies and implemented new strategies that have proven successful in reducing malaria cases nationally, although new challenges such as anti-malaria resistance have emerged presented.

In this webinar, Arlette will talk about the history of malaria control and elimination in Rwanda in recent years, changes in malaria epidemiology, and the challenges the country currently faces.

The session is moderated by Anna Rosanas-UrgellArlette’s co-supervisor and head of the Malariology Service within the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the ITM.
