An island of 453 hectares is for sale off the west coast of Scotland. For almost 3 million euros you get a private island with sandy beaches, seven houses, a place to land a helicopter, a herd of sheep and your own pub.

Sanda Island is located between Scotland and Northern Ireland. The island has had several owners over the years, from kings to the singer of a rock band. Now the natural beauty is for sale again.

The highest point on the island is 23 meters, on a clear day you can see Northern Ireland. The island is accessible by helicopter or boat from the Scottish village of Campbelltown.

“You can make money with it”

There are seven houses between the rock walls, and there is a lighthouse on the rocky point. Next to it is a small pub called the Byron Darnton Tavern.

The café is named after a ship that sank off the coast of the island in 1946. The then owners of the island opened the pub in 2003. However, the doors closed again seven years later when a Swiss businessman became the owner.

“The next owner can keep the pub as his own residence, but can also make money from it,” Tom Stewart-Moore told CNN. He is the man responsible for selling the island.

Own stamps

In addition to the pub, a herd of 55 sheep also feels at home on the island. “The sheep take care of themselves, they are the lawn mower of the island and require little care,” says Stewart-Moore. “They are included in the sale.”

However, there are even more animals to be found on the island, such as puffins, seagulls, cormorants and other types of birds. Sanda Island is also known as ‘Spoon Island’ because its shape resembles an upside-down spoon. The island also prints its own stamps.
