OnePlusLooking for a new smartphone that won’t cost you a fortune, but offers the performance of the biggest showpieces? The OnePlus 12 may be a big contender, just like the OnePlus 12R, its more modest brother. We list all the assets of both models.

Performance? Check. Ease of use? Check. An attractive look? You get that too. But what the OnePlus 12 and 12R particularly excel in is the unparalleled price-quality ratio. It makes both models the go-to smartphones of the moment. They combine performance, innovation and style.

High-end, yet budget-friendly
The difference between the two? Tweakers summarized this well in an extensive review of both models. “The OnePlus 12 R is the cheaper brother of the OnePlus 12. An excellent device in the upper midrange segment, with specifications and functions that come close to the high-end OnePlus 12. Although the screen is far from the promised maximum brightness it has above-average clarity and very good color rendering.”

The first special feature of the OnePlus 12R is the groundbreaking Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, a powerful processor and no less than 16GB of RAM. The OnePlus 12 comes with a particularly high-performance solution: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip.

A turbo boost, in other words. It is an intelligent chip whose CPU performance has been improved by as much as 30% and GPU performance has increased by 25%. In human language: both smartphones are fast and very responsive to use. It feels like the world is at your feet, ready to be explored with every touch. The performance of these two workhorses leaves the competition behind. Screen brightness, battery consumption, ‘heavy apps’, scrolling through social media, browsing websites… It just flies by.

What a screen
Trump number two: visual perfection. The 12R features the world’s first LTPO 4.0 display and an intelligent dynamic refresh system that effortlessly adapts to any activity, from a serene 1Hz for quiet moments to a stunning 120Hz for smooth interactions.

This also applies to the screen of the OnePlus 12: if you are reading and a video call is waiting, the refresh rate automatically switches back to 60Hz. The OnePlus 12 therefore ensures a smooth transition and an exceptionally fast, fluid experience.

Sharp images
With the OnePlus 12, even the clumsiest photographer can shoot the most beautiful images. In addition to the standard and wide-angle lenses, it also offers a telephoto lens, with which you can effortlessly zoom in three times without loss of quality. Thanks to the larger image sensor, your image remains razor-sharp even in low light.

The OnePlus 12R does not have a telephoto lens, but it does have a powerful macro lens. The OnePlus 12 does a better job of zooming in, but with the 12R you do get the opportunity to take breathtaking close-ups of the smallest details. A beautiful flower, a small insect… You capture them with incredible clarity. Although the image sensor is slightly smaller than its brother, the OnePlus 12R still offers impressive performance – perhaps with more mediocre results in low light.

Battery keeps up
And then we have to talk about the battery. High-end smartphones are equipped with a powerful 5000mAh battery as standard, but every now and then we see a surprising outlier. And this is where the 12R really is a game changer: the budget-friendly wonder boasts an impressive 5500mAh battery, while the OnePlus 12 has to make do with a modest 5400mAh powerhouse. HLN journalist Yorick Dupon discovered that the battery is really strong. ‘During the test, the phone always lasted at least a day and a half. Several times during the two-week review period we were able to use it for two days without having to be sparing. Unless you are an avid gamer or streamer, the phone will last that long for you as well,” he said in his review of the OnePlus 12.

Both models are equipped with the revolutionary Supervooc fast charger technology, which charges them at a breathtaking speed of 100W. And to top it all off: the OnePlus 12 also offers wireless charging at an insane speed of 50W, plus the ability to power other devices wirelessly with 10W. A world of possibilities, right in your palm, exclusive to the OnePlus 12.

Sleek design
But the eye also wants something. Tweakers summarizes the design of both smartphones as follows: “The OnePlus 12 and 12R have Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front. The 12 has Gorilla Glass on the back. This back has the same matte finish as that of the OnePlus 11 and devices from other manufacturers, such as the Edge 30 Ultra from Motorola. The frosted glass finish feels grainier than standard frosted glass, but not rough or non-slip. In any case, the device fits comfortably in the hand, feels luxurious and you don’t have to worry about fingerprints being visible. The frame is made of aluminum and is slightly convex around the device, except at the top, where it is completely flat. The frame has a shiny finish, just like the surfaces next to the camera island.” We are sold.

The OnePlus 12 and the OnePlus 12R combine ease of use, aesthetics and performance with an excellent price-quality ratio.
