The discredited former radio presenter Sven Pichal files a complaint against ‘Dag Allemaal’ and ‘Het Laatste Nieuws’. The fact that he was absent from his brother Geert’s funeral “due to the total rejection by society” is not true at all.
Sven Pichal himself carried his brother Geert’s coffin. All those present could see this during the funeral of the former Green councilor in Hoboken, as well as everyone who followed the funeral via livestream. Yet Pichal made the cover of earlier this week Hello everyone, stating the opposite. Literally: “He was absent from his brother’s funeral.” That concluded Hello everyone that “the total rejection by society” because of the facts charged against him makes an anonymous life impossible and that is why he did not show up.

A false news fact, his lawyer John Maes formally states. The cover of Hello everyone was also printed on the cover of the Tuesday newspaper of The last news. Both now also have a complaint with the Journalism Council. “Their claim was also not checked with Pichal’s environment or his lawyers with a view to a response.”

“Saddening”
“Pichal regrets that the memory of his brother is being used to build an integral article, starting from an untruth. It is saddening for the friends and family of the deceased to read this,” says Maes. “In the meantime Hello everyone a correction and apology have been posted, albeit on his Facebook page, where the limited number of followers will again see the cover of the magazine, and on which the pertinent untruth has still not been corrected.”
What makes it extra painful is that Walter Damen, Pichal’s lawyer who will argue the criminal case surrounding the possession and distribution of images of sexual abuse involving young children, is also a columnist for Hello everyone. He himself knew nothing about this story. (phu)
