At bus builder Van Hool in Koningshooikt, the staff returned to work on Tuesday morning, despite the news of the impending bankruptcy. This has been heard from the trade union front. It is not yet clear whether the wages of the workers will still be paid.

Van Hool announced on Monday evening that the announced recovery plan will not be realized, as there is still no solution to the inheritance dispute that divides the shareholders and Van Hool family. The company is now heading for bankruptcy at the end of the month. Discussions are ongoing with three potential acquirers who could ensure a (partial) restart. The management therefore called for continued work, to guarantee continuity and remain attractive to buyers.

The first reactions among the staff on Monday evening showed a certain resignation and uncertainty about the future. Tuesday morning is no different. “There are of course many questions and people talk a lot with each other, but everyone is working for the time being,” says ABVV secretary Hans Vaneerdewegh.

In the meantime, unions and employees are waiting for a guarantee from the company that wages for workers will be paid. There is doubt about this, because normally these payments are made at the beginning of the following month. In this case, that would be the beginning of April, but the company would already be bankrupt and therefore no longer have the necessary resources. The employees are invariably paid at the end of the month.
