Ongehoord Nederland lashes out: “Programs on Radio 1 categorically rejected”
--

Ongehoord Nederland (ON) would like to make programs on NPO Radio 1, but the broadcaster is “categorically refused”. ON writes this in its annual report. “Our great ambition to broadcast on Radio 1 at a regular time has been categorically refused, despite our very urgent pleas to the offices in Hilversum.”

The relationship between the NPO and ON has not been good from the start. Arnold Karstens’ broadcaster received several warnings for violating the journalistic code. The NPO also wanted to revoke the broadcaster’s license. In the annual report, ON lashes out at the NPO channel management. “Unfortunately, the fight with Hilversum is not limited to the boardroom tables. The rigidity of the NPO also affects our young broadcaster in its programming. Nowhere is this more visible than in the audio branch.”

‘Ongehoord’ did receive airtime on Radio 1, but during the night hours. “Radio 1 broadcast manager Klaske Tameling will grant us exactly one hour of linear radio during a normal broadcasting hour in 2023. (…) We are offered time slots deep into the night or early Sunday morning. These are not times when our supporters listen to the radio.”
