Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was supposed to be the next blockbuster for Warner Bros. Games. Unfortunately, that turned out completely differently. And this is reflected in the financial results: publisher Warner Bros. lost around $200 million in revenue due to the superhero game’s poor performance.

Compared to last year, Warner Bros.’s turnover has increased. Games dropped by about $200 million for the first quarter. This has a lot to do with the disappointing sales of Suicide Squad: the publisher calls the game an outright disappointment.

However, it also has to do with the gigantic shoes the game had to fill. Last year in February, Hogwarts launched Legacy, which ended up being the best-selling release of the year. Needless to say, Suicide Squad didn’t even come close to that game’s success.

A humbling lesson for Warner Bros. Games? Maybe. Hogwarts Legacy is a single-player game, while Suicide Squad was supposed to be Warner’s first major live-service title. Despite the failure, Warner Bros. even more live-service titles, because those games generate a permanent stream of revenue.

If Warner Bros. If that strategy continues, we will probably get a live-service Harry Potter game. An MMO where you can study at Hogwarts with all kinds of other players? Maybe something could be done…
