This Sunday the free animal event Beestig will take place in the Parkloods of Park Spoor Noord! Place. The festival is the result of a collaboration between the non-profit organization Dier in de Kou and the city of Antwerp. On the basis of all kinds of stands, a panel discussion and children’s entertainment, both parties hope to inform visitors about the responsible keeping of animals. Godmother Loes Van den Heuvel is looking forward to the first edition: “A wonderful stay in an educational environment.”

“At Dieren in de Kou everything revolves around collaboration and networking. Together with other animal organizations we want to make a difference in the fight against animal suffering. With that in mind, we will be heading to the Parkloods this weekend,” says organizer Els Van der Velden.

“There are various activities on the menu between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. We start with an information market where various shelters and non-profit organizations put up a stand. They are joined by a number of commercial stalls where visitors can buy fun gadgets for their pets: collars, anti-tick collars and so on.”

There is also an educational component linked to the event. “We bring together some interesting figures around the table for a panel discussion. They answer questions from visitors and provide their own input. Michel Vandenbosch from Gaia, author Joke Monteny and our godmother Loes Van Den Heuvel, among others, are present.”

Educational program

The latter is very much looking forward to the festival. “I am happy to be there and to link my name to an organization that is close to my heart. I am often approached to support one or another cause, but when Dieren in de Kou contacted me I immediately realized that they handle everything professionally and professionally.”

“As godmother of the non-profit organisation, I try to spread and promote the message of Dieren in de Kou. And that remains necessary, because animal suffering is still rampant. On Sunday, everything is going well: a beautiful location, lots of passage and an educational programme. It will be a fun day.” (lava)
