Bredene

During the night from Thursday to Friday, the driver of a Volkswagen with a Polish license plate caused havoc in the garden of a house in Zegelaan in Bredene. The man reportedly deliberately hit the neighbor’s fence first. The fire brigade had to free the man from his vehicle.

The accident happened shortly after midnight. Moments before, the man reportedly sped through the streets in his car. When residents of Zegelaan wanted to point out to the man that he should behave more calmly, he turned against the young family. He then called to seek redress. The residents made it clear that they would contact the police. Much against the driver’s wishes. He got back into his car and sped away.

Hellish noise

Shortly afterwards, one of the neighbors heard a hellish noise. “I was upstairs for about 10 minutes when I heard an immense noise,” says the woman from the house where havoc was caused. “According to the neighbors’ story, the man probably wanted to hit them. He drove into part of their fence, after which he lost control and drove into a garden.” (Read more below the photo)

The man drove loose through the fence of the house on the side of the road leading to Turkeyenhof. “He drove between our garden house and the house and hit the facade,” the woman continues. “I hate to think what would have happened if we had still been awake and he had entered our living room. He eventually came to a stop in our front yard. The devastation is enormous. Our facade has also received a boost.”

Research

The emergency services quickly arrived on the scene. The fire brigade had to free the man from his vehicle. “It concerns a 31-year-old Polish national,” says Commissioner Dennis Goes of the Bredene/De Haan police zone. “The man hit a municipal flagpole and a fence with his car and then he indeed drove through the fence of a corner house into the garden. The police have launched an investigation into the precise circumstances of the accident.” (Read more below the photo)

The man himself was allowed to leave the hospital in the meantime. Shortly afterwards, however, he returned to the location where he had wreaked havoc just hours earlier. There he was eventually taken again by the police.

“The man appeared to be looking for his telephone and appeared confused. He said he could not explain what he had done. The man was taken away, but for the sake of clarity not arrested,” the police commissioner said.
