Of the 1,524 students who registered online for the first year of secondary education in Aalst, 55 have not yet been assigned a school. Other children, such as Arthur Van den Steen Camu (12), miss out on a place at the school of their dreams. Arthur really wanted to go to the Atheneum Aalst, just like his parents, grandparents and great-grandfather, but the computer system now says that he has to go to the Lyceum. “I have been going to the Athenaeum since I was in kindergarten, all my friends are there, I was on the student council, and now there is no room for me,” says a dejected Arthur.
