On Saturday, May 25, a connecting neighborhood party with flea market will be organized in Deurne under the appropriate name “Aan de Klap”. From 10 am to 5 pm, it promises to be a fun day for young and old. The Frans Messingstraat and De Waillystraat, in the heart of Deurne center, will be transformed into a vibrant meeting place.

Alain Hoeckx, chairman of the retailers’ association, emphasizes the importance of the event:

‘Aan de Klap’ is more than a flea market; it is an opportunity to strengthen the community spirit in Deurne. By coming together we reduce the gap between people.

The event offers a wide range of activities. In addition to the traditional flea market, there is also a makers’ market where local artisans exhibit their wares. There are bouncy castles for the younger visitors and the inner person has also been taken into account with various food stalls.

Local resident Magalie Dujardin, co-organizer, explains:

We are about bringing people together. We consciously chose a location at the De Klap cultural center to literally and figuratively talk to each other. The name of the event, ‘Aan de Klap’, invites you to really talk to your neighbors. Both Alain and I also live here… that helps of course. (laughs)

There are still a few places available for those who would like to secure a spot. Interested parties can register via the website: https://www.deurnecentrum.be/aandeklap/
