Club Brugge failed to reach the final of the Conference League. The diptych with Fiorentina ended 3-4 in Italian favor, after a late penalty for Fiorentina. In the final, the Italians will face a clash with Aston Villa or Olympiakos.
Lucas Beltrán was allowed to connect from eleven meters five minutes before the end and gratefully unwrapped the present. He shot his team to 1-1, meaning Fiorentina eventually won the diptych 3-4. The first match in Italy ended in 3-2 for the Italians. Club Brugge took an early lead on Wednesday evening through Maxim De Cuyper and headed for extra time, but the late goal gave Fiorentina a place in the final.
Club Brugge pushed hard in the final phase, in which the arbitration added seven minutes of extra time. Hans Vanaken had another great chance with a shot that deflected. However, it did not lead to an equalizer. That is why Fiorentina will be in the final of the Conference League on May 29, which will be played at the AEK Arena in Athens. It will be announced on Thursday whether Aston Villa or Olympiacos will be the opponent. Olympiacos won the first leg 2-4.
Dutchman Bjorn Meijer was missing from the Belgians due to a serious knee injury. He will not play again this season.
