The Public Prosecution Service of Belgium is investigating a gang rape of a 14-year-old girl in the city of Kortrijk. The suspects, ten boys between the ages of 11 and 16, have been arrested and are under the supervision of a juvenile court judge.

The rape happened in early April. The girl was allegedly lured into the forest by her boyfriend. There she was allegedly abused several times by the boy’s friends. The newspaper The newspapaer writes that the boyfriend is a lover boy was, and that he deliberately allowed the girl to be abused by his friends.

The young age of the suspects and the size of the group are striking. “Because the perpetrators are so young, we release little information. They have all been identified and arrested and measures have been taken by the juvenile judge,” a spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service told the broadcaster. VRT. “Our attention is now first and foremost on the victim. She will receive guidance to help her understand these events.”

Horrible facts

The large group of minors is also said to have filmed the gang rape and shared it via Snapchat.

The lawyer of one of the suspects, Kelly de Caluwe, speaks about horrible facts. “I have never experienced this in my career,” she tells Het Nieuwsblad. “And the suspects are indeed very young. Not only the juvenile judge, but society as a whole should ask itself how we are going to combat such cases.”
