The Belgian public prosecutor is demanding up to thirty years in prison for men who allegedly seriously tortured a Dutchman from Heumen in Gelderland after cocaine theft. The Public Prosecution Service charges them with, among other things, attempted murder and severely mutilating torture.

According to the Public Prosecution Service, the 37-year-old Dutchman was the victim of “a prank” in the drug circuit. He is said to have been part of a “clan” that stole 15 kilos of cocaine from another drug gang.

On February 23, 2023, the man was found seriously injured in Ravels, in the Antwerp Kempen region, writes VRT NWS. The night before he was dragged into a van by five men. He was beaten in the van while the kidnappers took him to a location where they would torture him.

The Dutchman was severely tortured in a warehouse in Wilrijk. One of his fingers was cut off and the perpetrators carved the word “thief” into his back and forehead with a knife. The cuts were doused with ammonia. Two of those who ordered the torture followed everything via a livestream from Spain and gave orders to the martyrs.

The plan was to liquidate the Dutchman at another location, but the kidnappers had car trouble on the way there. They left the van, where the man was later found.

On Wednesday, the Belgian Public Prosecution Service demanded a prison sentence of thirty years against two alleged perpetrators of the atrocities. Eight other suspects should receive prison sentences of between 17 and 25 years. Three gang members with a minor role were sentenced to three years in prison.
